Trust and Obey

Grandson Peter at 3 weeks of age

Grandson Peter at 3 weeks of age

A familiar song came into my mind this morning as I meditated on the goodness and faithfulness of God to me yesterday.

Here are the familiar words:

“When we walk with the Lord, and abide in His word, what a glory he sheds on our way…”

You see, my tendency is to be a “make it happen now”  type of gal.    I tend to be driven to accomplish, make decisions, be compulsively busy.  In my economy, the sooner is always better.  I’m usually in a big hurry, but why?  Is God in a hurry?  Is He telling me to hurry up?  Does this driven mind set sound like a mind set on spirit or a mind set on the flesh?

Nevertheless,  I proceeded to go about my work day yesterday more focused  on doing the next thing than fretting over a  solution.   Not surprisingly, the phone rang and Voila!  God had already made a way and provided an answer.

Of course it wasn’t really the answer I would have expected, but nevertheless an answer.  I didn’t have to fret, wrestle, hurry-up-and-waitworry, or get anxious.  God’s answers are obvious, they are full of life and peace, money can’t buy it, there is no substitute.  As I cast my anxieties on the Lord and He directs my path, if I let him.  Remember, God is not in a hurry, are you?

Back to the words of my old hymn, Trust and Obey.

“While we do His good will, He abides with us still and with all who will trust and obey.”

Abide is to accept or act in accordance with His word.  Abide in me, and I in you.   As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.. (Romans 15:4)  If my mind is focused on the Spirit or on God, according to Romans 8:6, the ramifications will be life and peace.

What is your mind focused on today?  Will you share with others how you stay focused?Life-Is-Beautiful1

I am just like that and even though I’m getting a little better at remembering to slow down, I had one of those days today & I was pushy & rude to my husband because he wasn’t doing what I thought he should be doing. Thanks for writing this, it just convicted me to repent & ask The Lord for forgiveness.
